3 Problems with Opiates

Opiates have posed problems for years as a prescription drug. The reason being that they are highly addictive and have been known to cause drug abuse on a rather regular basis. Here are three problems with opiate drugs.

1. Euphoria - Opiates are designed to reduce pain. They are used in the medical field for patients who are experiencing debilitating pain or have gone through an intensive surgery. A common feeling from this reduction in pain is euphoria, which can become an unhealthy pursuit to maintain the feeling.

2. Addictive - Combined with the feeling of euphoria, opiates are highly addictive. It is very easy to become addictive to opiates, sometimes a single prescription can be enough to cause addictive tendencies.

3. Gateway - Because opiates are a prescription, they are easy to initially get a hold of, but can be hard to continue retrieving. This causes opiates to become a gateway drug to illegal and more dangerous substances that are more readily available.
