3 Side Effects of Behavioral Drug Abuse

  • -

Behavioral drug abuse is becoming a problem in our schools. They are being abused and misused in alarming numbers. Below are three side effects (and therefore reasons to avoid) of behavioral drug abuse.

1. Dependency – Abusing behavioral drugs can cause a dependency to them in order to focus at all. While generally abused to enhance focus briefly, it can cause an inability to focus without them.

2. Opposite of desirable effects – Behavioral drugs can have unhealthy effects when meeting with a brain operating normally. The drugs designed to create a chemical balance, can cause a chemical imbalance, which in turn can cause the opposite of the desired results.

3. Appetite/sleeping habits – Behavioral drugs can severely disrupt normal eating and sleeping habits. It is very possible to go days without sleeping or binge eat for weeks if these drugs are abused.

It is best to avoid behavioral drugs if they are not prescribed to you. If you are having issues after having abused or misused behavioral drugs, contact a counselor or doctor for assistance.
