3 Symptoms of Depression

  • -

Depression can be quite a struggle in daily life. It can become a debilitating problem, even fatal. Below are three symptoms of depression that can help you identify it.

1. Excessive sleep – While not necessarily related to depression, excessive sleep can be a sign of depression when combined with other signs. Excessive sleep, from a depression standpoint, is brought about by a lack of motivation and will to do anything. The response to this lack of desire is to sleep in many cases.

2. Severe sadness – Consistent bouts with severe sadness is the most common and obvious sign of depression. Everyone gets sad, but someone struggling with depression is in a deep sadness for long periods of time, sadness that goes as far as considering harming oneself or ending their own life. Anyone with these kinds of thoughts should seek help immediately.

3. Lack of motivation – There is a lack of motivation to go through the day. This could mean a refusal to go to work, go to a party, or even get out of bed. This debilitating symptom of depression can lead to further distancing and separation from social environments.

If you or someone you know may be experiencing some of the symptoms of depression, it is best to seek help by means of a counselor.
