Am I Addicted to Food?

  • -

Are you often plagued by overeating and excessive eating habits? Food addiction is an oft-overlooked but harmful pathological eating disorder. Compulsive eating and an addiction to food should be treated the same as any other eating disorder.

Some signs of food addiction include: eating when you are not hungry or when you feel depressed, obsession with food or preoccupation with food, lack of self-control when it comes to food, eating by yourself or in secret, consuming large amounts of food and then purging, eating harmful foods that should not be consumed or foods that are not good for you, and feeling guilty after eating.

Some physical signs of food addiction include: drastic weight changes, headaches, oversleeping or insomnia, irritability, depression, and moodiness. Food addictions can cause serious health issues if they are not treated. Being overweight can be detrimental to a person’s health and can lead to serious health risks. Treatment for food addiction is similar to treatment for those who suffer from bulimia, anorexia nervosa, or binge eating. Treatment options include counseling, family counseling, rehab, nutrition education, and exercise.
