Avoid the After-Holiday Blues: Tips on Keeping that Happy Feeling of the Holidays

  • -

The holidays are a merry time full of family and friends, good food, and pure joy! After the busy schedule comes to a halt, you can feel like there isn’t much going on anymore. No more parties to plan, no more dinners to prepare, and no guests to welcome into your home. This can leave you feeling a little lost and maybe a little down in the dumps. So how can you keep that happy feel of the holidays even after they are over? Read on for some helpful advice.

Relive the memory
Think about all the fun times you had during the holidays. Go through pictures you took and place in them in a photo album. Write thank-you notes for your gifts. Give your friends and relatives a call and see how their post-season holidays are going and discuss with them your favorite parts of the holidays. This will help you process all the events that happened. Consider having your closest friends and relatives over again for a get-together so that the holidays don’t seem like the end of joyous times with the people you care about.

Start a new hobby
Is there something new you’ve wanted to try? Well, after the holidays is a good time to start. Your schedule slows down, so you will have the time to begin a new hobby. This will fill your down time and keep your mind off missing the holiday season.

Get back into your routine
The holidays seem to throw off normal routines, so get back into what you are used to doing. Restarting your everyday activities will help create a sense of normalcy as well as put you back into the swing off things.

Don’t feel guilty
The holidays are a special time, so don’t feel bad if you experience the post-holiday blues. Everyone feels a little saddened after the holidays are over, but if the sadness feels like it’s too much, talk to someone you trust and tell them what you are experiencing. You might find you aren’t the only one with those feelings, and together you can provide emotional support to one another.
