When it comes to addiction, there is always a strong focus on the addiction itself rather than the circumstances that led to the addiction. In these cases, the addiction may be resolved, but only temporarily, as the circumstances still remain. This is much like a focus on defeating Mr. Hyde when Dr. Jekyll is the one who created Mr. Hyde. You can’t beat Hyde without beating Jekyll.
Jekyll is the you that got into the drugs that cause Hyde. You can only keep Hyde at bay for so long if Jekyll is still around. Defeating an addiction is a change of lifestyle and habits. It’s a change of yourself for the better so that Jekyll is no longer around to let Hyde out. When you can improve yourself, Jekyll can’t come back, and Hyde is then gone forever.
