Is Alcoholism Drug Abuse?

  • -

Alcoholism is not drug abuse in the traditional sense because of the social use in our culture, but it is just as dangerous as any other addiction or abuse. Alcoholism carries with it many similar dangers associated with substance abuse, such as organ damage or failure, abuse-related deaths, and legal restriction abuses.

Because alcohol, like prescription drugs, is legal, it is more difficult to monitor. Just like with prescription drugs, it is often the responsibility of the individual, friends, and family to moderate alcohol and identify problems that require treatment. It is important to acknowledge possible alcohol issues that you or a friend may have so that treatment may be found.
