The Drug Enforcement Association is making a move against prescription drugs. Not necessarily the drugs themselves, but against prescription drug abuse and misuse. All prescription drugs are prescribed from a doctor because of the complications that can arise if the prescription drug is abused or misused. When they are taken inappropriately, prescription drugs can pose a serious problem to a person, in some cases leading to an addiction. One easy way for prescription drugs to be abused or misused is in cases in which the drugs were not disposed of properly. The DEA has attempted to set up a nationwide plan to rid our homes of unused prescription drugs.
Often times, unused prescription drugs are stored in medicine cabinets or other easily accessible locations. There they remain unused until in some cases they are misused by another individual, bringing about either immediate problems or eventually addiction. Even though disposing of these drugs is the proper response, simply dropping them down the sink or throwing them in the trash can pose their own set of problems. Dropping them down the sink could contaminate the water supply and throwing them in the trash poses the problem of having them fall into the wrong hands.
What the DEA wants to do is have these drugs removed from our homes and disposed of in a proper way. By taking these drugs to designated locations, you and the DEA can be assured that the drugs are disposed of properly with no harm coming to anyone. For the past month, several of these drop zone locations have opened up across the United States. For several weekends, these locations collected unused prescription drugs for proper removal. While this movement continues to grow, it is important to note if there is an area near you for which you can use to dispose of your prescription drugs properly.
