Solace Counseling is dedicated to getting you or a loved one started on the road to recovery. We work through various treatment options with the person struggling with addiction. We tailor treatment plans to specific needs. One of the common treatment programs for addictions is the Twelve Step Program. These are the Twelve Steps (as retrieved from http://www.12step.org):
- Step 1 — We admitted we were powerless over our addiction - that our lives had become unmanageable
(admitting denial and beginning the process that leads to a clean and sober life)
- Step 2 — Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity
- Step 3 — Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood God
(a person can change just by making the first decision and by giving it all over to a Higher Power)
- Step 4 — Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves (recovery is a process, not an event, and during the process people will search their souls and learn more about themselves)
- Step 5 — Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs
(one of the hardest steps to face, yet one with the greatest opportunity for growth)
- Step 6 — Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character
(accepting character traits, both good and bad, and being able to work on the bad traits and let them go)
- Step 7 — Humbly asked God to remove our shortcomings
(asking a Higher Power for help and for more self-control)
- Step 8 — Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all
(realizing hurtful and harmful behaviors toward loved ones, and being able to make amends)
- Step 9 — Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others
(making amends with all those hurt friends and loved ones and asking for forgiveness)
- Step 10 — Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it
- Step 11 — Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God, praying only for knowledge of God's will for us and the power to carry that out
(planning for a future and discovering God’s plan for each person)
- Step 12 — Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs
With the Twelve Step Program and many other treatment programs, Solace Counseling can help addicts get their lives back on track. We work with each person individually to find a customized treatment plan. Contact Solace Counseling to learn more about treatment options.
