Why Is It So Hard to Quit Smoking?

  • -
“The American Cancer Society says about 70 percent of smokers want to quit and about 40 percent make an attempt to stop smoking each year.  However, only 4-7 percent actually accomplish this goal without assistance.  So you might be thinking to yourself, why is it so hard to quit smoking?”

The simple answer is nicotine.  Nicotine is physically and psychologically addictive. Your body metabolizes nicotine quickly so at first you feel very calm and relaxed and within a couple of hours when the nicotine levels drop in your blood your body will normalize and you will feel a strong urge to grab another cigarette.  The more you have the more you need, that’s why the sooner you can quit the better.

Because smoking is highly addictive it can be very difficult to quit.  Please share your experience and struggles with trying to quit smoking.  What helped you along the way and what made it more difficult?  If you are ready to quit and need some help, than please contact us now.
